I want to write a story about a girl and a guy that are going out, and the boyfriend leaves for the army and he is writing her these letters from the army and she is either not getting them or someone is keeping them from her? I’m not really sure where i want to go with it. But here is half of what i have written. I also have his name as Adam but idk if i like it or if it fits with the character, what do you think?
Dear my lovely Care-bear,
It’s blistering hot here today. It smells terrible too, burning trash all over the place. Yesterday it was mine fields, tomorrow who knows what it will be. We went through the streets of Baghdad…the streets are piled high with trash, slick with grease, blood and grime. Someone made the comment of people will burn it to get rid of it. We tried to get out and move it, so a few families could get back in their houses but you just slide around with all the grease and sweat. I didn’t feel heroic leaving those people homeless. I haven’t felt too heroic at all here, yet. I have never liked the cold, but right about now I wouldn’t mind living in Antarctica for a few months. I have made some really good friends here. There is one guy named Dave, he’s our age and has a little girl back at home. He got to talk to her on the phone yesterday, and it really hit me hard. It made me miss you. I don’t know if I will be able to call home anytime soon, but if I do I will write you a letter to expect a phone call. Don’t be silly though, and wait by the phone. But of course, I know you will. I miss you Caroline. You don’t even know how much I miss you and how much I love you. When I get back, I am going to sweep you into my arms and ask you to marry me! I think I will title this at the top letter one, I will write you a letter each and every day unless I am at battle…then I will make up for it.
I’d give you a kiss if I could. I love you.
Take care and try to not miss me too much,
Adam
Caroline folded the letter neatly and laid it on the counter of the coffee shopped where she worked during the day. It was just a summer job, and it kept her busy and not moping around since Adam had left. 365 letters, that’s a lot, she thought. Adam and she had been dating since they were sophomores in high school, and now at 21 they wanted to get married but he ended up going off to war at the last minute. She never really expected that the person who she loved so much would just leave her.
“What did the letter say? Can I read it?” Jenny, her best friend asked as she came around the corner of the back room and grabbed the letter. She didn’t say a word, just turned her back and began to boil the water for the next coffee pot. “Caroline, can I read it?”
“Sure, go ahead. It made me cry though.” Caroline whispered as she closed the lid on the boiling water and turned back to face her.
“Will I cry too?”
“No. You won’t get it.” She said, feeling as if she had said that for the millionth time that month.
No one understood Adam and Caroline’s relationship. No one ever would begin to grasp the memories they had together or how deep their friendship was. Sophomore year they became friends and at the end of the school year they were dating. Everyone said it wouldn’t last because their personalities were so different but it became an “I can’t live with you, I can’t live without you” relationship. Sometimes they would fight for days but they always made up and they dated all through high school. Caroline was sweet, laid back and reserved. While Adam was loud, driven and outspoken. There were times that she wished Adam would just shut up, but right now she longed to hear his voice again.
“Awww, Caz…that’s so sweet. Are you going to write him back?” Jenny asked returning the letter to her and giving her a pouty face.
“Ladies!” A sudden voice yelled out and they both turned around to see their boss, John, stomp in behind the counter. “There are costumers to be served, ladies! Quit dallying and prepare the coffee, ladies!” Caroline looked around, there wasn’t a customer anywhere in the shop…in fact there hadn’t been all day. Jenny snickered under her breath and turned to find the coffee beans to pour in the grounder. Their boss was really weird, he was bald and had huge glasses and was really short and wore knee high socks with short shorts and a white button down shirt. He used, ladies, after every sentence when addressing Jenny and Caroline.
“I don’t see customers, Johnny.” Jenny said in an innocent voice.
Caroline let out a burst of laughter and shook her head at Jen’s outspokenness. She didn’t know how people could just constantly say what’s on their mind. What if someone didn’t want to hear what they were thinking every little thought?
“But anyway, are you going to write him back?”
